Warning following motorcycle thefts

North Wales Police is warning motorcycle owners to remain vigilant following thefts in the Gwynedd North area.

The first motorcycle is reported to have been taken during the evening of Thursday December 7th from an address on the High Street in Bethesda. It was later found damaged nearby. Anyone with information is asked to contact North Wales Police quoting reference A192714.

The second is reported to have been taken from an address on College Road, Bangor, during the afternoon of Sunday 10th December and was later found damaged nearby. Anyone with information is asked to contact North Wales Police quoting reference A194822.

District Support Sgt. Andy Davies said, “We’re appealing for anyone who may have seen either of the described motorcycles or may have dashcam or private CCTV footage that may assist in our enquiries to contact us.

“We’re also appealing for residents to remain vigilant for suspicious activity in the area, and for motorcycle owners to check the security of their vehicles when not in use.

“If possible, park your motorcycle where it can be seen by yourself or your neighbours, and use locks and alarms to prevent an opportunistic thief from trying to steal it.”

Security Tips

There are a number of ways that you can help to make the theft of your vehicle more difficult, or recovery of it easier.

  • Have an approved electronic immobiliser professionally fitted.
  • If you have a security device fitted, always use it. A wide variety of locks can be used, such as chains or padlocks, disc locks and D locks.
  • Secure your motorcycle to a solid object that can’t be moved.
  • Always put a steering lock on.
  • When not in use, put it in a garage or secure outbuilding with a fixed or ground anchor. Fit a good lock and an alarm system to your garage or outbuilding.
  • Don’t leave your garage open and make sure your vehicle is covered, even when you are at home. Some motorcycles and scooters are stolen to order, so a motorcycle spotted by a thief could be stolen later.
  • Mark your motorcycle with its vehicle identification number (VIN).
  • Think about where you park your bike; use a parking space built specifically for motorcycles or scooters. They will have stands or security loops.
