Powys Motorcycling Courses for 2025

Powys County Council is offering several motorcycle courses this year, funded by a road safety grant from the Welsh Government.

Biker Down! Cymru has been designed to give a better understanding of what to do if you come across a road traffic collision and how to manage it safely. It consists of three modules:

  • Incident scene management
  • Casualty care
  • The science of being seen.

It is free of charge to attend, and courses are available on the following dates:

17 May 2025 - Newtown Fire Station
14 June 2025 - Brecon Fire Station
12 July 2025 - Brecon Fire Station
9 August 2025 - Llandrindod Wells Fire Station
20 September 2025 - Llandrindod Wells Fire Station


The Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) assesses your motorcycle riding skills and provides training to help you improve. Whether you have just passed your test, are returning to motorcycling after a break or just want to check your riding standard, this course could be for you.

ERS is available in Powys on the following dates:

8 May 2025 (theory), 10/11 May 2025 (practical)
12 June 2025 (theory), 14/15 June 2025 (practical)
10 July 2025 (theory), 12/13 July 2025 (practical)
7 August 2025 (theory), 9/10 August 2025 (practical)
11 September 2025 (theory), 13/14 September 2025 (practical)
9 October 2025 (theory), 11/12 October 2025 (practical)

South Powys
1 May 2025 (theory), 3/4 May 2025 (practical)
5 June 2025 (theory), 7/8 June 2025 (practical)
17 July 2025 (theory), 19/20 July 2025 (practical)
31 August 2025 (theory), 2/3 August 2025 (practical)
25 September 2025 (theory), 27/28 September 2025 (practical)
2 October 2025 (theory), 4/5 October 2025 (practical)

Theory sessions take place online via Microsoft Teams from 7pm until 9pm.

A Motorcycle Engagement Event has been arranged in conjunction with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service on 8 June 2025 at Ascona service station, Crossgates. The event will take place from 9am until 3pm.
